Jerry met me on Facebook through Messenger. Anyone who knows Facebook knows how many bots, scammers and kooks contact you with crazy ideas. I automatically delete and block those contacts and was just about to delete Jerry when I noticed the ten page resume he’d included in his note. I decided to take a look at it before deleting and I noticed he had done some work in the Ft. Pierce area, where my brother, Jay Kirschner has a criminal law practice. I figured it couldn’t hurt to run this Lyons guy’s name by Jay on the off-chance he’d heard of him. I figured the odds were slim to none, but I hadn’t spoken to my brother in a couple of weeks anyway, so I called him. Imagine my surprise when Jay not only knew him, but was really impressed with his work. “He wants you to write with him? Do it!” was his response.

A couple of days later Jerry showed up at my house with a three-foot high stack of files on the Aaron Hernandez murders. We had an immediate connection and my one fear was we’d spend more time laughing and exchanging stories than we would writing. Nevertheless, we got our act together and the RICKY BURNS MYSTERIES series was born—beginning with TWO IN THE HEAD.
